Kim Kardashians’ beau and NFL football player Reggie Bush became an instant Superbowl hero some weeks ago. Not only does he do great on the field, he scores high on his looks too. Forget about the sport outfits. Reggie looks fashionable wherever he goes.
‘Normal is crazy enough’ is a famous Dutch saying, but who thinks Amsterdam has no sense of fashion might end up surprised! The Dutch are taking more and more distance from their sober Calvinistic background and if you walk around Amsterdam for a day it’s hard not to find some cool vintage shops and hot boutiques. Though not that impressed by big designer names, the people from the Dutch capital have a truly original style!
On a night out we met Eveline, a 26-year old artist from Amsterdam. Eveline is quite the adventurous type; she will be moving to Romania this year! She loves to combine high street brands with vintage stuff she finds everywhere, like this red belt that used to belong to her grandmother, and the bag is from Uganda. Her friends describe her style as ‘shabby chique’. Eveline admits she doesn’t know anything about designers, but gets her inspiration primarily from fashion blogs.
Italian Vogue just relaunched its website and for the first time in the English language, finally. But far more interesting are the sections within: Vogue Black, Vogue Curvy, and Vogue Talents. Vogue Curvy is devoted to women with curvaceous figures. That section leads with a video interview with Crystal Renn, who talks about how amazing life became when she decided to stop starving herself. Vogue Black also appears to be devoted to black talent in fashion. The premiere top story is a video interview with Tyra Bankss who appeared in Italian Vogue’s all-black issue last year. Vogue Talents seems to be all about up-and-coming fashion talents. However, it currently leads with a story on Rodarte, a label that is hardly up-and-coming at this point. This raises the question: why must curvy women, women of color, and design talent be viewed in separate channels? Is it not possible to have a fashion magazine that embraces women of all sizes and colors who wear young and established labels?
She seemed very at home here during the London edition of her Fashion For Relief event, but supermodel Naomi Campbell has revealed that she’s no longer a Londoner: she’s a full-time Muscovite. The model said she has moved there with Russian boyfried Vladimir Doronin and admitted we may be seeing much less of her over the coming months. “Well, I don’t live here anymore,” she told the Metro. “I live in Moscow now permanently and I really love life there. I’m really happy and things are just going really well. You know, I just don’t know how many more catwalks I’m going to do from now on. We’ll just see.”
Diane von Furstenberg may have had the best inspirational line ever in her Fall/Winter 2010 show notes: “I always wanted to live a man’s life in a woman’s body.” With a combination of tailored suit jackets and free-flowing cocktail dresses Ms.Von Furstenberg showed a collection that appealed to a vast majority at the New York Fashion Week. Front row were: Rachel Zoe, Peaches Geldof, Molly Sims, Anna Wintour, André Leon Talley and Shantel VanSanten.
Chinese designer Lu Wei Kang has made a series of GaGa accessories for Barbie dolls – including the Kermit The Frog dress and the red face-veil – and you could soon be able to buy them. We love her totally outrageous outfits, the hairbows that defies gravity and the ridiculous teacup she insists on taking everywhere – quite frankly, she wouldn’t be Lady GaGa without them.
Even though the sky is still grey outside we’re not letting it get us down. We’re ready for spring. And it’s time to work the more lighter and softer shades now. Think of white and pastel colors. We’re excited to wear these lovely colors. Combine it with jeans or keep it in the same colour-area and go for grey. You’ll look absolutely stunning!
Country hottie Taylor Swift enjoys an early summer in this floral Rebecca Taylor dress during her trip Down Under last week. A much fuller Carmen Electra rocks the same dress with suede boots at the Rebecca Taylor runway show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City.
Melissa George, actress from Australia and recently seen in the Australian Vogue, is one of the most promising new actors of her generation. We saw her in series like Greys Anatomy and this year, while she radiates on the silver screen in ‘Triangle’, she got nominated for the Golden Globes. Besides her acting skills, Melissa cherishes a big love for everything that has to do with fashion. Her favourite clothes all look classic, with funny details in a refreshing way.
Reality star Kim Kardashian and her famous sisters may be considered fashion icons, but occasionally Kim doesn’t hit the mark. In this dress she wore at an Famous Cupcakes event in Beverly Hills last weekend, she looks like an unwrapped mummy. Hot or not?
