Well, after all these years, The New York Times is now calling Elaine a fashion icon! ‘’Over the years, Elaine has stood out in long floral skirts, blazer with padded shoulders and granny shoes with socks. Unlike other 1990s series with more easily imitable style, ‘Seinfeld’ was decidedly anti-fashion. But now, if you happen upon an old episode, Elaine just looks cool!’’ Elaine 90s style has been seen on Chloe Sevigny, wearing floral waist skirts and awkward mismatched items at once. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who plays the character Elaine, says: ‘’It wasn’t about trying to look sexy. It was about looking like a girl who pushes people around. God, fashion is so strange. I’m glad I don’t dress like that anymore. On the other hand, maybe I will again since everyone’s doing it.‘’ What do you think of Elaine’s wardrobe?

American Vogue’s creative director Grace Coddington is writing her memoirs, which contains many details about her life at the fashion magazine. She came to the attention of many in the fashion documentary ‘’The September Issue’’ alongside Anna Wintour. Now, when we hear the name, we see the face. Of course, she leaves a good impression and is not hard to miss with the red perm. About her autobiography, Grace says: ‘’We’re just starting, and I think it’s going to be a really fun project. I’m hoping it’s going to be very rich in fashion history.’’ What can we expect? Well, her early life in Wales where she grew up, as well as her careers at both British and American Vogue. She has been working with Anna Wintour for the American Vogue since 1988. The same year Anna Wintour joined the magazine. Before the Vogue virus, Grace worked as a model. Be on the lookout for her memoirs! We’re extremely curious what she has to say about her somewhat mysterious colleague, miss Wintour.

Former fashion journalist and designer Luella Bartley is writing a book on style in the UK. For her book ‘Luella’s Guide to English Style’ Bartley is analyzing the British crowd and their sense of style. It’s the perfect project for the fashion journalist who became a successful designer, known for her girly yet sturdy designs. The book focuses on exactly what’s so cool to the British style. From Kate Moss to the duchess of Devonshire, Luella has an opinion on their wardrobe choices. The book is expected to come out on the 14^th of October.

Do these jeans make my diaper look big? Eh, excuse me? Yes! This could be the future.. The idea of squeezing ourselves into skinny jeans makes us woman cringe a little. Now imagine pulling them over a diaper! According to the Wall Street Journal, skinny jeans are what babies are drooling over. Gap tells the paper that skinny jean styles are very popular among infant and toddler girls, according to their sales ratings. WSJ tells us: moms want their daughters to be Mini-me’s, so designers tend to simply shrink down adult styles for the little ones. First denim diapers, now baby skinny’s. What’s next? I guess all the cool kids are rocking denim diapers and skinny jeans in daycare these days. Oh baby!

Finally, some recognition for the fashion forward folks. The abbreviation for Little Black Dress, LBD, has been added to the Oxford Dictionary of English. While the fact that a word is in the dictionary doesn’t mean it’s widely known, it at least has become an official word. So no more explanations about this term, maybe just one last time for old times sake: LBD means Little Black Dress. We’re counting on you never having to repeat that again.

These weeks the boutiques and stores get filled with the pre collections for autumn 2010. The racks with clearance now only take up a small corner of store space and our attention moves towards the collections for autumn and winter 2010/2011.
We are preparing in advance for the new fall look. There are many fashion trends for the coming season, you instantly have enough to work with. The latest fashion trends for autumn and winter 2010/2011 at a glance; short skirts, cognac-coloured fashion accessories, jackets with epaulettes and braided detailing, the military look, long jackets, animal prints and ankle boots.
As for the makeup trends, this fall the colours are steel gray, midnight blue, violet, a hint of grey and dark green with glitter in the inner corners. The eyebrow should be there and dark. For instance, the models at the Diane von Furstenberg show all had brilliant made-up eyes. Dark green, blue and glitter in the inner corners.

The American designer Betsey Johnson, best known for her styling on SATC, has turned 68. Last week she celebrated her birthday at her Soho boutique in New York. Johnson, who showed up in a big bold pink birthday dress, has been rocking the fashion industry with her unique and original designs since the sixties. The famous Edie Sedgwick used to be her house model back then. After ten years of designing for other labels, Betsey started her own label called Betsey Johnson, with business partner Chantal Bacon in 1978. What’s Betsey’s trademark look? Sexy silhouettes, flowing fabrics, hippie inspired prints and lots of different colors mixed together. The enthusiastic, creative and talented Betsey Johnson has been designing clothes for the past 45 years, with many more years to come. Hurray! Happy Birthday Betsey!

This week supermodel Naomi Campbell came to our country. Miss Campbell had to give a testimony on the case Charles Taylor, the former president of Liberia. She told the court she was given diamonds by Mr. Taylor. Supposedly they were blood diamonds that they used to buy weapons, during the war in Sierra Leone. It’s a complicated case. However, we were very interested in what the supermodel was wearing. Well, her hair was up with a French twist and she had minimal makeup. She arrived in a cream-colored knit dress and cardigan from designer Azzedine Alaia, his spring/summer collection. Very sophisticated! After the trial Naomi flew straight back home.

Last week fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg donated half of her fortune to charity. Inspired by Microsoft creator Bill Gates, who started this campaign, Diane was exited to pitch in as well. Gates organization is called The Giving Pledge, witch hopefully inspires other multimillionaires to join and donate at least fifty percent of their savings. The designer, known for her wrapping dress, is still deciding whether to donate during her life, or after. People who want to join can choose their own charity. Way to go Diane, for being the first woman and the first in the fashion industry!

Singer and actress Miley Cyrus announced her plans to auction off her clothing and accessories on Ebay, for a good cause called Get Ur Good On. This organization is a social network that connects youth with volunteering in and around their communities. Miley says: ‘there are amazing charities right here in America. You don’t have to travel for hours… you don’t have to give a billion dollars. It’s about looking at your neighbors and seeing how you can help.’ Miley’s Get Ur Good On auction is scheduled to begin later this month.
