fashion flash: some afternoon man candy

American actor Channing Tatum, as photographed by the amazing photographer Tony Duran, began his career as a fashion model and now appears in movies. In 2010 he plays in ‘Dear John’ starring next to Amanda Seyfried. Sorry to say, but he is already married to fellow actress Jenna Dewan who he met on the set of the dance movie ‘Step Up’. They began dating shortly after filming had finished. How romantic.

fashion flash: french vogue banned by balenciaga

The entire French Vogue team including Carine Roitfeld was banned from attending the Balenciaga show during Paris Fashion Week. “We’re blacklisted” Roitfeld told WWD. “It’s too bad, it’s a beautiful house and it’s French. I hope that it’s not forever.” She also added that Balenciaga took Vogue of their advertising list and will not longer loan its clothes for their photo shoots. She couldn’t explain why, and Balenciaga chose not to comment. At first the rumor was it had something to do with advertising, word on the street now is that Roitfield allegedly asked Balenciaga for samples for an editorial shoot, and one of the coats ended up at Max Mara’s design studio where it was copied and then sent back to Paris! Balenciaga is notoriously strict with their samples and when the French label heard about Max Mara, they were told to have lost it. To be continued..

fashion flash: tom ford to launch women’s wear

Tom Ford launching a women’s wear collection looks one step closer as rumors intensify that the designer is building a design team and has begun recruiting accessories specialists. The former Gucci creative director officially confirmed last year that he would expand his label with a clothing line for women and that it was not a matter of ‘if’ he would launch it but ‘when’. It’s a good time for the designer to branch out, because his men’s wear is doing pretty well, bad economy considered.

fashion flash: oscar awards dresses

For the 82nd time around the Oscar Award ceremony was held in the Kodak Theatre in LA yesterday evening. Besides the highly desired statute it is all about ‘who wears what’ at the red carpet. Actors, stylists and plus one’s try to find the balance between high fashion and movie-star-tradition on a yearly basis. Some insiders even say it is the most important red carpet event of the year. Check all the pictures here.

fashion flash: alice in wonderland

The new Tim Burton creation ‘Alice in Wonderland’  has premiered and it functioned for a lot of fashion designers as inspiration. Obviously Nicholas Kirkwood went all out designing these ‘Alice in Wonderland’ inspired killer heels. “I am very happy to be involved in this project as I love Alice In Wonderland. My interpretation for Alice is all about fantasy and fun through escapism.” Kirkwood told Vogue earlier. No wonder they are being shown in a special window display of the luxurious French department store Printemps during Paris Fashion Week.

fashion flash: chanel’s treasures auctioned

During a two-day-long vintage Chanel sale, held at the Parisian ‘Drouot Richelieu’ auction house, hundreds of fashionistas were drawn to the French capital last week. Lots of items were on display included iconic tweed skirt suits, classic chain handbags, 1980s-era ensembles by the label’s current designer Karl Lagerfeld, and vintage haute couture gowns by Mademoiselle Chanel herself. While some of the vintage pieces stayed safely behind velvet ropes for one to watch, most of the clothing and accessories could be handled, inspected and even tried on. Women of all ages, some of them dressed in head-to-toe Chanel, rushed to the racks finding their Chanel piece for a bargain price. There were even some people calling from overseas (USA, Asia) to bid on special items. It took assessor Francoise Sternbach from ‘Drouot Richelieu’ a year and a half to assemble the more than 800 lots, which she acquired from private sellers. Surprisingly some of the vintage items were in such beautiful state that they probably will end up going to museums.

fashion flash: naomi campbell attacks driver

It hasn’t been the first and it probably will not be the last time around: Supermodel Naomi Campbell attacked one of her staff members. The catwalk legend’s chauffeur accused her of hitting him from behind from the back seat of her luxury car driving around in New York City last night. He informed the police but no charges are being made because the driver has decided not to pursue the matter after all. The blow is said to have caused his head to strike the steering wheel leaving him behind with a bruise under his right eye. Campbell, one of the world’s highest-paid models of all times, has been convicted for a number of assault charges in the past.

fashion flash: italian vogue’s website now in english

Italian Vogue just relaunched its website and for the first time in the English language, finally. But far more interesting are the sections within: Vogue Black, Vogue Curvy, and Vogue Talents. Vogue Curvy is devoted to women with curvaceous figures. That section leads with a video interview with Crystal Renn, who talks about how amazing life became when she decided to stop starving herself. Vogue Black also appears to be devoted to black talent in fashion. The premiere top story is a video interview with Tyra Bankss who appeared in Italian Vogue’s all-black issue last year. Vogue Talents seems to be all about up-and-coming fashion talents. However, it currently leads with a story on Rodarte, a label that is hardly up-and-coming at this point. This raises the question: why must curvy women, women of color, and design talent be viewed in separate channels? Is it not possible to have a fashion magazine that embraces women of all sizes and colors who wear young and established labels?
