must-have: color & studs

As the fall season gets closer everyday it’s time to enjoy the last few days of summer. This colored and studded dress will definitely keep us in the summer mood. Is the color blocking trend making a u-turn? Even if it’s not, this dress is great for sunny days. As day hits night you might want to try a pair of rowdy boots or killer heels underneath.

catwalk trend: prints on pants

Prints have been among the summer trends but designers haven’t forgotten about these bold prints for upcoming fall season. We’ve observed an explosion of prints on pants these last few months. Graphical, floral, animal and grafitti prints have been spotted on the catwalks. The looks are finished with (even more) printed sheer tops and striking blazers.

Style tip: Don’t forget to accessorize, even if your pants are out there already. A simple belt can add a sense of calmness to your look.

fashion week report: club brillant

Club Brillant invited their public to celebrate 6 years of fashion at the last show of the Amsterdam International Fashion Week S/S ‘11. The show was absolutely packed with a dressed-up and on-trend audience. Designers who debuted in these Brillant shows in the last 6 years, were asked to show three to four of their absolute showstoppers. We saw Bibi van der velden with her big golden bowls, Mada van Gaans with a transparent jumpsuit and a special show dedicated to Percy Irausquin, who sadly passed away two years ago. We saw the most outstanding dresses and of course some great eyewear. The music was a mix of various deejays, which made the celebration complete! Afterwards the music continued in the foyer for many hours.

fashion week report: roparosa

Roos van der Kemp (25) was the winner of the designer contest called ‘Project Catwalk’, showed on Dutch television this year. Her label, named ‘Roparosa’ is based on the power of masculine shapes without losing a feminine feel and is sportswear inspired. The show started with an eclectic dance beat.Stylist Bastiaan van Schaik was sitting front-row accompanied by Project Catwalk’s ex-juror – Stacey Rookhuizen. The collection ‘ Come Out and Play’ is full of strong shapes; sporty elements combined with colour blocking; two-tone and tie-dye. The main colours were based on contrasts; dark blue combined with light yellow and grey meets stone red.
The absolute most remarkable item was a XXXL knitted scarf. But also a sharp-shouldered bolero-top really jumped into the eye. ‘Come Out and Play’ from Roparosa is an innovating collection with many wearable items. Fabrics are used in an experimental way, which we like because of the new opportunities in dressing the brand showed us. The combination of colours is also very refreshing and it looks like we will be hanging on to the playsuit-trend a while longer.

fashion week report: sandwich

Sandwich, a Dutch brand that has been around since 1983, did a salon show this Fashion Week. The collection was divided into different themes, each with their own colours. The overall palette consisted of whites, sands and greys styled by theme colours such as yellow and pink, but also some tie-dye, floral and painted prints made an appearance.
The collection was characterized by layering and smart detailing, all for the purpose of creating a flattering silhouette for women with some imperfections to hide (don’t we all?). Sandwich wasn’t at Fashion Week to show their innovative creativeness, but to give their buyers, associates and customers a look at the new collection with the proper styling for their target group.

fashion week report: conny groenewegen

The CG by Conny Groenewegen show was presented in the open air. The models were wrapped in plastic foil, and when they were freed they proceeded down the runway. The collection was a mix of smooth pearl-shine fabrics, wool and leather. The fabrics had openwork web detalings and sheer pieces. The public as well as the models got headphones to listen to the accompanying songs, instead of music booming out of speakers. This made sure the audience was completely focused on the show at hand. All in all, an arty take to a runway show, and a gorgeous collection.

fashion week report: grazia presents darylvanwouw

Daryl always knows how to get a happening crowd to his shows, and they come with many. Packed to the fullest of its capacity, an excited clamour went across the public. When the lights finally went down, there was even some laughter as people all over the stands summoned silence by Ssshh-ing. A good vibe anticipated a good show.
Once again, van Wouw didn’t let us down. The collection was suprisingly feminine, with pleats being the central theme. Favourites were the pleated leather shorts in different colours and voluminous short skirts. The trims on the tops and the tribal styling of the models gave the whole a street vibe, but many of the pieces had an easy chic feel to it. The colour palette was subtle with tones of green and red, ochreous and cobalt and some timeless pieces in black. All in all, Daryl showed he can do chic in a casual way to near perfection.
