TO Wear It Well | Cosmo Beauty & Lifestyle Editor Anne-Kaisa Faber

What this fashion professional wears behind-the-scenes and on the job

“My attention span is kind of short,” she says laughing about her look that transforms with every new moon. A real chameleon and the lifestyle- and beauty editor for Dutch Cosmopolitan, Anne-Kaisa gets to still her hunger for the new everytime again. Chanel, Kiehls, M.A.C., Anne-Kaisa´s little black list with essential beauty products never ends, and she loves to share those with the Cosmopolitan reader as if she were the always in-the-know and stylish friend. Also Marlis, our photographer, has to blink twice to make sure it is in fact Anne-Kaisa with her new do. At night the two often meet like  ‘rebels with a cause’ and Anne-Kaisa preferably dressed in denim or leather. In this Q&A she reveals her love for grungy style icon Ashley Olsen, an outfit from childhood that made her fit to be a modern day geisha and Cosmo’s ‘September issue’.

Sum up your personal style?

“It really varies on a daily basis, yet I always tend to go for a mix of tough versus feminine and boyish versus sexy. You would rarely see me in an outfit without any denim or leather items. A pencil skirt could go with a leather motor jacket. Some leather pants I pair with a transparent top. Jeans with high heels. A slimfit, long skirt with army boots. And always I like to finish it off with heavy accessories.”

What do you normally wear during a quiet day at the office?

“When I don´t have any appointments I would opt for army boots, leather pants and a denim shirt.”

What makes your job as editor for Cosmo so special?

“I started out as a fashion stylist for several magazines. Since 3,5 years my focus lies with beauty, yet only recently I get to combine these two areas of interest for Cosmopolitan. Besides beauty and the lifestyle- and interview shoots, I now get to produce and style again. To create beautiful imagery with a lovely team makes me really happy. So I can really say that I have the best job and the best of both worlds, fashion and beauty.”

Which style icons do you like to keep in mind while getting dressed?

“I love the style of Kate Moss and also the looks of Ashley Olsen. While they are both beautifully petite, I do have to consider my curves so I would never opt for something too oversized.”

Which memory from childhood you vividly remember and how has this shaped your sense of style?

“I was maybe five years of age, yet during this dress-up party I simply refused to look clownish. If I were to get some face painting and a costume it would have to be done in style, and that meant a stylish geisha. The make-up just had to be neat and symmetrical, and the oversized dress I would cinch in around my waist. Only then it would be okay for me to take part in the whole thing.”

Could you tell us something about an extraordinary, new project?

“Our trend issue or yes, the September issue, is just finished. It just makes me so happy to dive into a new fashion and beauty season with all the productions that go with it. Prepping really takes a lot of time, yet the end result is always great with all the new trends for come Fall and new angles for every production. Also, I have been busy producing an amazing denim street style shoot for the October issue in which readers show their very own denim style. I really hope readers will love it as much as I enjoyed making it. For the November issue I got 25 pages extra for a beauty special. In this special you will find everything there is to know about beauty, from interviews with female beauty icons from the Netherlands sharing their tips and tricks to the best in beauty products, the latest trends and techniques when it comes to colouring your hair, the most wanted A-list celebrity make-up looks and beautifully photographed skincare. So much fun to come up with all the ideas and to create the actual issue.”
